Hanen for Parents, Caregivers and Teachers

A research-based approach

At Sound Ways, our speech and language therapists are Hanen-certified in all the Hanen programs and will be able to best cater to the needs of you and your child.

The Hanen Centre, a world-renowned leader in early childhood language development, has committed the last 35 years to putting parents first when it comes to helping their child build language and social skills. Driven by the firm belief that parents can and should be their child’s most important language teachers, Hanen has developed several research-based programs and resources specifically for parents of children from birth to five years of age to show them how they can make the most of every interaction they share with their child.

Do contact us if you would like to speak to our Hanen-certified speech and language therapists for more information about any of the programs below or head to the Hanen store to browse through the resources.

It Takes Two to Talk® for Parents of Children with Language Delays

The It Takes Two to Talk® Program is designed specifically for parents of young children (birth to 5 years of age) who have been identified as having a language delay.

TalkAbility™ for
Parents of Verbal Children on the Autism Spectrum

The TalkAbility program is specifically designed for parents of verbal children ages 3-7 with social communication difficulties and teaches parents practical ways to help their child learn people skills.

More Than Words® for Parents of Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder

The More Than Words® Program was designed specifically for parents of children ages 5 and under on the autism spectrum. Addressing the unique needs of these children, the program provides parents with the tools, strategies and support they need to help their children reach their full communication potential.

Target Word™ for
Parents of Children who are Late Talkers

The Target Word program was specifically designed for groups of parents of children under the age of 30 months who are using few words or who, by the age of 24 months, are not using several two-word combinations. These children understand what they are told, have good play and turn-taking skills, and have no trouble learning everyday routines. But when it comes to using words, their vocabulary is limited.

I'm Ready!™ for
Parents to Build Early Literacy in the Home

The I'm Ready! program offers parents the chance to help their child (aged 3-5 years old) develop the literacy skills they need before starting school. This program is ideal for children who are typically developing, at risk of a language delay, or with a mild language delay.

Learning Language and Loving It™ for
Early Childhood Educators

The Learning Language and Loving It Program was designed to provide early childhood educators with practical strategies for helping all children in the classroom build language and social skills, no matter what their learning and communication styles are, and even if they have special needs.

ABC and Beyond™ for
Building Emergent Literacy in Early Childhood Settings

The ABC and Beyond program is designed to help educators of preschool children (ages 3-5) promote the emergent literacy skills that all children need to develop in order to learn to read and write successfully.

Teacher Talk™ Training Series for
Early Childhood Educators

The Teacher Talk training series was developed as a flexible series of three 1-day trainings to introduce early childhood educators to the Learning Language and Loving It™ approach to help you create rich and stimulating language-learning environments for the young children you work with.
